Yes there are worse things than Shelob, in fact there’s her mother. This dark spider-like creature, is a primeval spirit of night and darkness, named Móru. She drained the light from the Two Trees of Valinor destroying them, and consumed the reserves of light from the wells of Varda, ending the Age known as Years of the Trees. Her unremitting hunger may have driven her to devour herself.
